What is Wood Badge? An advanced leadership course within the Boy Scouts of America.
In 1911, Baden-Powell took his first steps in training Scouting’s adult leaders by organizing a series of lectures. The first Wood Badge training session was held in 1919. Since then, Wood Badge training has continued to evolve in order to meet Scouting’s needs. Wood Badge focuses on preparing adults to deliver the mission of Scouting. As a result of attending Wood Badge training, you will:
- Acquire contemporary leadership concepts and discover how these apply to the Scouting program your involved in whether it’s Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Varsity, or Explorer Posts. These leadership concepts include:
- Coaching and Mentoring
- Project Planning
- Conflict Management
- Understand Scouting as a family of interrelated, value-based programs providing age appropriate activities for youth.
- Revitalize your commitment to Scouting by sharing in an inspirational experience.
How much does WB cost? For the 2018, S5-550-18-1 the cost is 4 easy payments of $60 for a total course fee of $240.00. Make your first payment as a deposit to reserve your spot. REGISTER
What does the course fee cover? Everything, the fee covers all materials, food and the WB training award that is presented to you at the completion of the WB ticket.
What is a ticket? The Wood Badge “ticket“ represents your commitment to complete a set of goals that will be developed during the course, related to your Scouting position. Your ticket gives you an opportunity to practice and demonstrate a working knowledge of the leadership skills presented during the course.
Do you have scholarships? Yes, a limited number of partial-fee scholarships are available to apply toward the course fee. These scholarships are granted based on need. Scholarship applications are available through the council Program Secretary, Robin Pittman. A copy of the letter confirming the awarding of a scholarship must be attached to the application, along with the balance of the fee. With Wood Badge being a premiere leadership course, units, chartered organizations and a number of employers may also partially or completely underwrite necessary fees for a Scouter to attend. Please inquire prior to applying for council scholarships.

How do I register for the course? Visit our participants page for all the info required to attend the course. You can register and pay online HERE. Make a deposit of $60.00 to hold your place or you can pay the full payment of $240. Also you can register at the local council office. If you need help with registration, contact the course director.
